How to keep your Goals on Track

If you’ve read my recent blog post on “How to have your best year ever” you’ve probably been wondering if there are tools or softwares (is that a real word?) out there that can help you with this.

I tried a number of different pieces of software last year, and couldn’t find any one piece of software that could really help me.

Although I use EverNote and Mind Mapping software to initially organize my thoughts and form the goals, they don’t help in creating an action plan, or managing your time effectively and monitoring your goals. GoalsonTrack.com is the only one software service I’ve found that comes close to comprehensively addressing my needs.

Things I like:-

·         It’s Web Based

·         You can specify categories of goals

·         Tasks are linked up to goals and are defined per goal, as opposed to just an independent to-do list

·         There is a very personable development team behind it (even though their website doesn’t create that impression)

·         It has a journaling feature, and you can journal your thoughts, notes and progress per goal

·         Vision Board

·         Progress chart with graphs giving you a visual display of you progress

·         Reports

·         Habit building feature. I thought this was rather nifty

·         It emails you daily of “what’s due today”

My Wish List:-

i.e. Things that I think would turn this from a good app, to killer app

·         Mobile App – at least iPhone and Android with cloud syncing

·         Desktop App (Maybe something Adobe Air based like with Tweetdeck?)

·         Ability to share goals and journaling with (at least) one other person for accountability and masterminding purposes

·         Freemium Model and/or at least a free trial – Though, I got a free trial for 2 weeks, because I am special! ;-)

·         Maybe some sort of differentiation between work/business and personal tasks. But maybe that can be achieved with categories, I didn’t check that far.

The best homepage ever

If you are someone that suffers from Information Overloaditis. (I vote that should be a real medical term), or want a better way of keeping up with RSS feeds, I highly recommend Feedly.

As mentioned in the video, you will need a Google Reader account, which you can get for free from Google.

As always, if you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to ask me in the comments or catch me on my Facebook group

When Twitter gives you a headache...

I use Tweetdeck, because it helps me with the information overload problem.

I really like Tweetdeck, and in fact, they just released their latest version which has even more improvements.

If you spend a lot of time on Twitter, in my personal opinion this is the best desktop app out there for it.

Also, remember, that Tweetdeck can be installed on multiple PCs and the groups can be synchronized, including your iPhone.

You can download Tweetdeck from their website at: http://tweetdeck.com/beta/

As always, if you have any further questions, or have any Tweetdeck tips of your own, don’t forget to share in our Facebook Group.

Enjoy!

Speech recognition comes free as part of Windows Vista, and is sadly a forgotten but very useful feature built right into Windows.

It is great for people who may have Repetitive Strain Injury, or dont like typing in general, or just want to get their work typed up real fast.
I, myself am a pretty fast typer, but still use speech recognition for large documents as i can get the work done much faster.

Speech Recognition in Vista can also be used for ordinary commands to actually "drive" windows such as launch programs and other ordinary operations you would do inside of Windows, however, for me personally, i have found that a little difficult to get used to. I find i am faster with the mouse. You should try it for yourself though, you might like it.

How to use Gmail to check emails from multiple email accounts

(download)

Gmail can be used to retrieve emails from multiple email accounts.

All you need are your POP3 server details which are available from your existing email provider.
The advantage of doing things this way, is that you dont have to check all your email accounts separately, which saves time and hassle.

Additionally, if you ever decide to move all your email permanently to gmail, you can import your old emails and contacts from the major tier email providers such as Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL, and your POP3 service provider if it supports it.

My apologies for the heavy blurring in places, but that was to protect sensitive contact information.
Feel free to ask me any questions in my Facebook Group if you need any further help in setting this up

Enjoy

You can download Windows Live Writer for free from this link

When you first load Windows Live Writer, you will need to add your blog details, these are the same as the ones you use to log into your blog's admin panel.

If you are using Wordpress don't forget to enable XML-RPC in your Wordpress site.
To do that you need to:

Log in to your blog with the admin account, and go to Settings, and then Writing.

Check the box next to “XML-RPC” on the Writing options page, and save the settings.

Why I love Adobe Lightroom

Apologies for the slightly distorted video picture. I'm working on a large widescreen monitor and had to scale the picture down.

Adobe Lightroom is a tailored version of Adobe Photoshop designed specifically for Photographers.

You can see more examples of my Photography fun on my Flickr Page. These were all processed using Adobe Lightroom.

As I mentioned in the video, there is alot more to Photography and working with Lightroom than this, but i just wanted to demonstrate its power.
